+“Nice Giegue costume.” said Itoi without turning around.
 +“Pardon?” said Giegue.
 +
+“Nice hippy costume, too, although eating all those shrooms was taking it a bit far. You two – those sprites are unused for a reason. Cut it out.” he looked over at Moor Ecivres, “What are you supposed to be?”
 +
 +“Itoi-sama.” Moor Ecivres bowed deeply.
 +
+“Oh, I get it. Kumatora! Doesn't look anything like her. Another coffee, please!”
 +
 +“I'll pay.” said Moor Ecivres.
 +
+“If this is about the US release of Mother 3, I'll be discussing it all at the presentation tomorrow.”
 +
+“It is not about the US release of Mother 3.” said Giegue.
 +
+“Although its awesome that you got around to it.” added Moor Ecivres.
 +
+“Where is the Devil Machine?” asked Giegue.
 +
+“Oh? Its the thing Giygas is inside at the end of Earthbound.” said Itoi, looking confused.
 +
+“That's over. Where is it now?”
 +
 +“You mean in Mother 3? Well, I hadn't really...”
 +
+“Don't play games with me, you... God... our radar says it is in your briefcase.”
 +
+“What in the...?” he began. Then the door exploded off its hinges. Twelve FBI agents ran in, wearing combat armour and carrying assault rifles.
 +
+“Freeze!” said their leader over a crackly radio. Itoi, the hippy and the receptionist put their hands in the air. Tent Person and Dung Beetle crashed. Moor Ecivres positioned himself protectively between Itoi and the men with guns, a look somewhere between defiance, mania, fanaticism and something beyond the capacity of human emotion, something truly terrifying to behold. Giegue just stared at them, his tail swishing, a hint of red playing between his fingers and his eyes.
 +
+“Its over, punks! We know about the alien invasion and your plot to abduct Shigesato Itoi! We're takin' you down for the good of America!”
 +
+“SHIELD OMEGA!” yelled Giegue. An invisible energy barrier appeared in front of them all just as bullets started tearing the place apart. Many of the bullets that hit the shield rebounded back, a couple of them even hitting the FBI agents.
 +
+“Quickly!” whispered Itoi. He led them out of the back door, down a narrow alley, then jumped up onto a roof. Below them, they could see the streets begin to mill with FBI agents, cops, even a small squad from the Army. Everyone was running and screaming hysterically. A few people were already dead from panicked cops with itchy trigger fingers. The fugitives ignored them all and ran.
 +
 +
+“Are you going to tell us where it is now?” said Giegue, his eyes narrowing.
 +
+“Yes, but we have to get to a safe place.”
 +
+“Is anywhere safe, man?” asked the hippy, “The whole fucking country is after us!”
 +
+“No, not the whole country...” said Itoi.
 +
+As if on cue, John Kerry's face appeared on a huge display screen that had been flashing Coca-Cola adverts, clearly visible to everyone in the area. He looked furious.
 +
+“STAND DOWN!” he roared. Almost everyone dropped their guns. Bemused and terrified, Moor Ecivres stopped to stare, but was pulled along by Itoi. They jumped down and ran through another alley.
 +
+“This way!” said Itoi and jumped inside a building. It turned out to be a second hand games shop. Lounging against the wall, playing Dark Savior on a Saturn, was John Kerry.
 +
+“Er...” began Moor Ecivres, “Thank you?”
 +
+“Any time.” said Kerry, struggling with Parallel 3's mine cart level, “Can't hold em off for long, though, I don't have the authority, SOMEONE didn't vote me in!”
 +
+“Exiles can't vote!!” protested Moor Ecivres.
 +
+“Was talkin' to you!” he glared at the hippy, who quailed under his terrible gaze. His acid trip was starting to go bad.
 +
+“No sweat, I can't even run for President, I'm an exile too.” he admitted, “See that guy? The guy on the screen now? That's me.”
 +
 +“The banana?” asked Dung Beetle.
 +
 +“No, THAT guy!”
 +
+“The guy who just got killed by the banana?”
 +
+“Shut up, that's why!” he roared, “Anyway, seriously, you guys need to do what you came here to do.”
 +
+“Where is the Devil Machine?” repeated Giegue.
 +
+“Its not in my briefcase.” said Shigesato Itoi, “And its not on my computer. Think about it – those things exist here. In the final, released world. Where did you find the Devil Machine, Tent Person?”
 +
+“In the Lower Alphas... what the hell?”
 +
+“That's right. The Devil Machine is... my dreams. My inspiration. My muse.” said Itoi, “The most terrifying and wondrous machine at all – my mind.”
 +
+“Hm... then that makes things awkward, considering what I had planned to do with it.” mused Giegue.
 +
+“Magicant isn't accessible from this Earth! How can we enter his mind?”
 +
+“Oh, I know how to do that.” said the hippy, a big drugged-up grin on his face. In either hand he held a magic mushroom.
