+Gyiiyg could not imagine what kind of force could even begin to endanger an entity as powerful as this. He didn't even think he could put a scratch on the baby's psychic shields if he were still Giygas. This world around him... he was beginning to understand what it was.
+“Yes, this is a Magicant.” said the baby, “An entire world of my own psychic metacreation. A sanctuary for me. As you can see, I am too powerful for any outside world to hold me. I have been ever since I was born. Even in systems that would not be destroyed by my psychic aura, there are forces within the Universe that wish to find me and misuse this power. Many of them do not wish to do harm – they simply have not thought through the consequences of their actions entirely, whereas I have seen every possible outcome, every eventual fate of the Universe, and I do not wish any of what I have seen to happen to a Universe in which I have to live. I withdrew to this world around me entirely long ago. It contains everything I need.”
 +
+“How long ago was 'long ago'? You do not appear to be a very old human.”
 +
+“I understood the path to immortality within the second month of my existence. It is very simple, to shatter the illusion of mortality. It is only a flaw within our current consensus reality. I also see all periods in time with equal ease, although I do not travel in time.”
 +
+“Yet you are still in danger.”
 +
+“There are things I cannot change. Know about, yes, but not change. Try to change these things without permission, get involved in things you're not part of, you might cause something to go wrong, and that's how people like you and me become like this 'Giygas'. But my brother and sister... they cannot help becoming mixed up in them, no matter how hard I try to protect them. They were essential to these events since the beginning of time.”
 +
 +“What kind of things?”
 +
+“The eventual destiny of the Universe.”
 +
+Gyiiyg's eyes flared black light. He remembered once again the flash of the moonlight on the snow, on the blades, the sound of footsteps running across the crevasses, wings flapping, battle chants...
 +
+“I only tell this to you because you, too, are irreversibly tied to that destiny. You know, don't you? You've always known. Your real destiny. And I can feel that deep inside your heart, you don't want anything else except to fulfil your destiny.”
 +
 +“I am the fourth Savior.”
 +
+“No, Gyiiyg, you are the final Savior. The last of all of them.”
 +
+The final door opening. Eight people to do the job of sixty. The weight of the end game so eschatologically profound it weighed more than the black hole sun...
 +
+“This cycle will come to an end soon, you see.” said the baby, “It was always supposed to end some day. But then things went wrong. The price we had to pay to have any hope of fixing it at all... Lucas, his name was, Lucas Worldbreaker. You saw him as you arrived here. Even his Magicant is in ruins and there is nowhere else for him to go now. Now that he has broken his entire destiny...”
 +
+“Is that what I've been seeing? Different people's Magicants? But you can't go into...”
 +
+“Oh, but I can.” said the baby, sounding slightly sad, slightly regretful, “I can bring as many visitors as I want, too. And that's not the only place I can go to from here. Do you want me to show you?”
 +
+“Tell me exactly what you mean about the cycle being broken.” Gyiiyg narrowed his eyes, “About the things that went wrong. Especially about how become like Giygas.”
 +
+In answer, the air shimmered a little and another figure appeared, hovering in front of them. A young man with brown hair, wearing a black tunic and trousers. He was suspended in a field made of chalky blue pastel the colour of the night sky. He was unconscious, maybe sleeping. The expression on his face was of someone who was in no pain but whose dreams were troubled.
 +
+“This is Moor Ecivres.” said the baby, “He is from another destiny. This is the first time I have been able to access anything at all from his destiny, even any information about it other than the fact of its existence.”
 +
 +“His destiny?”
 +
+“The Least Desirable Outcome.” said the baby, “The ultimate culmination of the mistakes that have been made, the errors reported, within the flow of fate. The complete and irreversible corruption of fate. The Bad Future.”
 +
+A flash of red. GYIIYG GYIIYG GYIIYG GYIIIYG GYIIYG...
 +
+“I evacuated him from the place as soon as I found him and locked the door after him, just in case it tries to take him back.” it said, “I'm sorry, but he was the only thing I could recover. The rest... was beyond repair. Giygas isn't a threat there, its the rule. The entirety of consensus reality. The other inhabitants of the world didn't even have a concept of something outside Giygas.”
 +
+“A Giygas that encompasses an entire world...” Gyiiyg shuddered, “Is it even possible to fight such a thing?”
 +
+“Not if you play by its rules.” said the baby, “Moor Ecivres survived entirely because he believes himself not to be a part of the world around him, because he refuses to accept any consensus reality. There's something about him... its hidden even from me... even when I looked there...”
 +
+The boy turned over in his sleep, sighed a long-suffering sigh and started humming the hotel theme.
 +
+“I want to go home...” he sang. The passion that went into those five words was stronger than all the primal insanity of Gyiiyg's millions of years of existence as Giygas.
 +
+“If only I could reach him, his knowledge would be vital to my understanding of exactly what went wrong to cause his destiny to come into being. Then I could bring it back out of existence. Without deleting him in the process, if possible.”
 +
 +“The machine.” said Gyiiyg.
 +
 +“Pardon?”
 +
+“The Devil Machine.” repeated Gyiiyg, “Its what turned me into Giygas. I remember it. Only very dimly, but I remember it.”
 +
+“I should have known. But the Machine is almost as difficult to find out about as him... whoever made it, did a good job in keeping it as hidden as a machine like that needs to be.”
 +
+“Do you have any clue as to where it could be?”
 +
+“Only one. And I dare not risk it.”
 +
+“Why not? What could possibly be worth more to you than the fate of the Universe?”
 +
+“My sister.” said the baby, “I would have to use my sister as bait.”
 +
 +
+“She has been manipulated enough already.” said the baby, “It is my fault, I suppose, but it Is unavoidable. Too much is at stake. I need to know that she will definitely, without question, continue to take care of me without asking too many questions such as why I am still a baby, why she hasn't grown up either, why she is in the wrong time period... I must protect her as well. She is a psychic null. She cannot defend herself. My brother... will one day be able to take care of himself, at least against most things, but right now he has only recently manifested his powers.”
 +
+“What does your sister have to do with the Devil Machine?”
 +
+“I have reason to believe that she has manifested the power of Prayer.”
 +
+A crimson static scream. A call out to the endless darkness.
 +
+“The... the power that defeated me... that defeated Giygas.” he corrected through clenched teeth. The memory of the pain was enough to make him want to black out.
 +
+A hand, reaching out, pulling him back from the darkness...
 +
+“That is correct.” said the baby, “I am not sure how it works. Alone of all psychic powers, I cannot use it. I understand that it is... a call, to one beyond this Universe, one that my sources of information cannot detect.”
 +
+His own voice, screaming the name over and over of the only one who could redeem him... NESS NESS NESS NESS NESS NESS NESS NESS NESS NESS NESS NESS...
 +
 +Mother
+Why did I have to kill my brother
 +And not some other?
 +
+“I am almost certain by now that the Devil Machine was designed to contain and amplify the power of Prayer.”
 +
+A man standing in a phone box...
 +
+“I do not understand why Giygas would be created by the one thing that can destroy it.” mused the baby, “They must originate from the same kind of energy... maybe it has something to do with the entity on the other end of the communication.”
 +
 +Another voice...
 +
+A voice on the other end, calling inwards.
 +
 +“Paula.”
 +
+They both looked around. Moor Ecivres was sat bolt upright, staring at them with the wild, spectral lucidity of a sleepwalker, of a madman's one moment of sanity. The baby gave him the frowning look of intense interest that only babies can.
 +
+“Paula.” repeated the boy, folding his hands in prayer, “I can hear you just fine. And I'm gonna give you all the energy you need. Take it all. Take my life energy if you need it. Right down to the last HP. Do a ton of damage to Giygas. DO YOU HEAR ME, GIYGAS? HERE'S A TON OF DAMAGE!”
 +
 +Gyiiyg just stared.
 +
+“Because...” continued the boy, “Because I know you'll do the same for me. I know you'll help me in my hour of direst need. There's only one thing I really want in this entire Universe.”
 +
+“I want to go home.” A serene smile spread over his face. “DO YOU HEAR ME, MOTHER? I'M COMING HOME!”
 +
+“I miss you too...” he concluded, closing his eyes and returning to sleep.
 +
+“Gyiiyg, I want you to take Moor Ecivres to Paula and tell her what just happened.” said the baby, “You'll find her in her house. She doesn't hide like the others.”
 +
 +“What about your sister?”
 +
+“I'll help my sister.” said the baby, “I've always helped her before. I owe it to her. Do as I ask, Gyiiyg, and come back to me. Then I'll tell you the rest of the story and show you the thing I've been meaning to show you.”
 +
 +“How will we meet?”
 +
+“You'll have to come to Magicant.” said the baby, “If you can't even go to Magicant by yourself, you'll never survive inside the place I want to take you.”
